a sensory explosion
happens in my nose
(ivan disagrees,
salivary gland)
making mouth water
at the slightest turn
(he thinks a bell
might work too)
first it was curious
now uninvited
how do i explain
(psychic secretion?)
the tart of a lemon
a table away
as i watch eyes
widen with curiosity
(nobel prize already won)
a sneeze and request
to move it further
i think it is a condition
not a reflex

smiled reading this….and puckered my lips for some reason…

So funny…my senses have been on overload for over a week now. I have no idea what is up with the hypersensitivity. I can smell things in the next room and my hearing is even more acute. Doc didn’t have any insight since I don’t have any other symptoms. Guess I will just enjoy it while it lasts.
January 29th, 2010 at 4:06 am
love fresh lemons and limes…used to have a lime tree in my back yard when we lived in florida. it was a reflex every saturday to walk out and pick them on the condition we would make key lime pie. lol.
January 29th, 2010 at 7:31 am
Key lime pie is a favorite! There was a Meyers lemon tree where we were staying in San Fran last week. Yum!

This observational, humorous, and dry-witty way to describe what is happening is a delight to read. Great narrative, and because there’s no pause it flows in one almost unbroken stream, pausing only at the bracketed narrative to muse on a point. Excellent poem. Very well done.
I have added you to my blog roll and will follow your pages. 🙂

Thank you for the kind words…I am adding you to my list! 🙂

🙂 Happy Friday! Sounds like your nose cleared up?
January 30th, 2010 at 10:11 pm
Wow, already late Saturday, whoops. My nose has cleared up but my sense of smell was even cutting through the stuffy nose. It was (still kind of is) totally odd. Oh well, keeps life interesting. 🙂
January 29th, 2010 at 9:01 am
wishing you a novel day ahead,
I am fascinated by your amazing creativity,
keep it up, 😉
January 30th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
Thanks J. Been kind of busy the past couple of days. Hope I can find my muse! 🙂
January 29th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
Ha! Ivan’s wrong, taste begins in the nose with smell. No smell ability, no taste either. Neener. 😉
Now I want a lemon fruit pie – one of those Hostess things that were so good when I was a kid. Ah, how you tease me Jaymie! This was fun. 😀
January 30th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
LOL I remember those from Junior High! Silly Ivan!!
January 30th, 2010 at 5:36 am
I used to eat lemons with salt, is it weird? And then I’d get the uncomfortable feeling on my teeth but I’d keep eating…… Beautiful poem and unexpected, but that’s what I love about you.
January 30th, 2010 at 10:14 pm
My goodness it is good to see you!! How are things going? You have been missed. Lemon and salt sounds like the first two steps of a tequila shooter, lol. I loved eating lemons as a kid but never bothered with the salt. 🙂

Enjoy An Elegant Evening. Best, 😉
January 30th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
It was a busy evening and I am about to fall asleep sitting up. Still, maybe I will try to write one poem…maybe. 😉
January 31st, 2010 at 8:22 am
I love the first line “a sensory explosion” because that’s how the photo hit me at first glance…something bright, tangy, and summery. And come to think of it, a lemon tart does sound pretty darn good..
January 31st, 2010 at 10:42 pm
I am a huge fan of citrus, no arguments from me! 🙂
