Thumb wars

thumb-wrestling

let me be your stranger

it’s easier to defy expectations that don’t exist

be my other

new , exciting, unknown

steering our moment

disorienting direction

while I discover missing pieces

words before and after

written in the dictionary

This Way

waiting for calls

to go out in the wild

grasslands as the frontier

 a place where someone can

dance in rain split by sunrays

tramp through mud molded as clay

feel the elements wash across

a servant’s soul in answer

peering across the field

no longer in isolation

waiting for calls

Meant to be

looking for light and tolerance
dark ball sitting in stomach’s pit
longing to direct willing youth
warn them away from mistakes
made when tired was unknown
womb not heavy with experience

mother’s worry that well-worn paths
still hold sharp stones that wound

young men not compliant types
to boyhood warnings and direction
throw caution as broken boomerang
laughing at monsters under beds
no need for bandages on scrapes
as life chisels and defines into
the men they are meant to be

a resolution

long to be anonymous
lurking in shadows
unnoticed and naked
no title attached
alone, standing quiet
silent sentinel to life
a moment untainted

only a moment

no angle or viewpoint
surrounded by activity
sans desire and intent
baptized by awareness
sanctuary of solitude
replenishing to soul
learn to treasure all
