canvas sits empty
staring me down
bright reflection
daring to feel
so many colors
begging broad strokes
and intricate details
something to define
but caps stay on
bristles unmoved
lingering over
the masterpiece
one more day
__________
It’s Thursday again which means…Jingle‘s Thursday Poets’ Rally!! I have really been enjoying the weekly challenge of this wonderful rally of poets. Last week I was again awarded for being a regular at the rally. It is my pleasure to pass the award along to Michele Spector at Art is My Religion. I love how she sometimes follows her poems with further insight. Be sure to visit her!

sometimes you have to take the caps off and just play for the masterpiece to come…or you can just wait. smiles.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:27 am
Sometimes the idea has to stew before I can take off the caps. Smiling back.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:55 am
Oh man! The agony of the artist, no? You captured that wonderfully. π
I’ve stared at notebook paper and told it, “Stop mocking me!” Done that with the computer cursor too. I always want to fill those blank spaces with words, which is silly because I’m not a writer, LOL.
February 25th, 2010 at 10:28 am
The agony of the artist, yes! lol You look like a writer to me. π
February 25th, 2010 at 10:53 am
isn’t it interesting how the inanimate objects associated with our work turn into real persons: staring, daring, begging? i know the pen/keyboard and i have had it out many a time.
i love how you captured that here. thanks for posting!
February 25th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
too real sometimes, lol.
February 25th, 2010 at 12:52 pm
I’m the same way with paper and pencil when drawing I just have to wait until I feel moved to draw..I wait for the insperation to come.
February 25th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Just can’t force it…I’ve decided my muse is a sprite with itchy wings. π
February 25th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Enjoy your moment!
U truly rock!
triple cheers,
π
π
π
hope that u feel much better today!
Best!
February 25th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Slow but sure. Thanks J!
February 25th, 2010 at 3:03 pm
OH, the disdain of the blank canvas, the way it defies, mocks, intimidates! Great stuff, Jaymie. Well said. π
February 25th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Yes, mocking! π
February 25th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
You are all an amazing group of writers! π
February 25th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Including you! π
February 25th, 2010 at 7:44 pm

February 26th, 2010 at 8:37 am

Thank you for the kind award. Glad to see you as part of the Poets’ Rally.
February 26th, 2010 at 12:30 pm
Great poem. Captures that initial moment before creation when all is possible or inhibiting. Thanks
February 28th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
All is possible during the stare down. It is the time after that when borders begin to inflict themselves.
February 26th, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Hope that u enjoy a beautiful Friday, Jamie!
Best wishes.

“lingering over
the masterpiece
one more day”
Oh WOW.. Loved it Jaymie!
February 28th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Actually, more than a day. It’s still locked in my head, lol.
February 27th, 2010 at 7:23 am
I have to agree, I love that ending. You capture with words a thousand setting suns, a beauty that stands alone, and yet inspires breath and thought.
February 28th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could find a way to add something each day that was nearly as beautiful as a setting sun? A lofty and unreachable goal but still worth consideration.
February 27th, 2010 at 9:17 am
daring to feel so many colors…
lingering…
you are a masterpiece, jaymie. but you know that. it’s such a joy to experience your beauty and grace here.
February 28th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
I love feeling in colors – I just wish I could find the volume sometimes.
February 27th, 2010 at 10:51 am
Hey! I love this! You gave me a GREAT smile and laugh. I AM finishing up some projects that must be done. And then I’m painting. But my canvas and brushes and tubes of paint are still at the store! π La, la, la! PLEEEEEEEEEAAASE share Your painting when it’s completed. I LOVE Your art. Okay. I’m off to finish rounds and said projects. Big Hugs and Namaste. π
February 28th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
You just encouraged me to finally deal with some blog business I have been avoiding so coming here won’t be stressful. I need to get back to creating…organizing will not bring the same peace. π
February 27th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Wit and courage r all over your place.
Happy Saturday!
Best wishes.

February 28th, 2010 at 4:06 pm

February 28th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
I feel like this all the time. Probably a little too often.
This poet’s rally sounds interesting. I may want to check that out. Congratulations on your award.
February 28th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
I always need a good bit of bouncing around in my head time. π Here’s a link to last week’s rally…

thursday poet’s rally? i want in! π how does that work?
also,
“but caps stay on
bristles unmoved
lingering over
the masterpiece
one more day”
this is exactly how i feel when i procrastinate about writing…like right now, i’m trying to avoid writing a school paper. ugh.
February 28th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
maybe we’re not procrastinating as much as thinking things over? π Here is a link to the rally…

Hehe…I love the irony – the inspiration behind it being the lack of inspiration. Sometimes it seems I am staring at a blank page and blinking cursor far too long. Thanks for sharing this!
March 17th, 2010 at 7:58 am
you are welcome!
